Will I still be a Microsoft MVP in PowerShell after next week?

It’s Annual Review time, and rumors suggest that all MVPs will receive news next week about whether they will be renewed for another year. In this small blog post, I will highlight my journey during my first year as a PowerShell MVP.

What is a Microsoft MVP?

“The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award is given by Microsoft to “technology experts who passionately share their knowledge with the community”.[1] They are awarded to people who “actively share their … technical expertise with the different technology communities related directly, or indirectly to Microsoft”. The MVP recognition lasts for a year and is awarded for a person’s Microsoft related activity, contributions and influence over the previous year.[2]

How did I become one last year?

Well.. It’s a journey, not something you just become. After contributing to many posts on the Tech Community Forum, interacting with the Community, being in the WorkplaceDudes, and the PowerShell podcast, in the program panel of Experts Live, writing many blogs, putting my scripts on GitHub, etc, etc,  Adnan Hendricks nominated me (Only another MVP or Microsoft employers can do that) and things started to happen. You need to demonstrate to Microsoft what you’ve done for the Community and why you’re an advocate for Microsoft technologies.

And in March 2024, I received an email from Microsoft confirming that I was an MVP in PowerShell. Such a happy day 🙂

Things I did in the last year

I continued writing blog posts (which I enjoy), and I was also a guest on multiple podcasts (See https://powershellisfun.com/podcasts/), attended community events, engaged with many people, and went to the Microsoft MVP Summit at the Microsoft Office!. However, I also was… A speaker at two events, three, including last month, but the timeframe is from April to April for events that count towards your Annual Review. Check out this link https://powershellisfun.com/events/ for more details. I’m proud to have been a speaker at PSSaturday in Karlsruhe and Workplace Ninjas NL! Last month, I was also a speaker at Experts Live NL, and I hope to do that again in the future. (But it’s still a bit scary, have to do it more and become more confident about the whole thing:D )

Is it enough?

I’m not sure, but I have a good feeling about it! The Community around PowerShell and other Microsoft products is great to be a part of! Gives me energy, and it’s fun to meet people who are driven by curiosity and technology.

Wrapping up

And that was a small blog post about the MVP Annual Review moment for me, I haven’t had much time this week because I’m moving to another city tomorrow 🙂 Exiting times, will keep you updated, and have a lovely weekend!
