Scriptember 2024 and PSSaturday

The Scriptember 2024 event is officially over, a month of celebrating PowerShell and the community around it. In this blog post, I will talk about the events and the things I learned and enjoyed the most 🙂

What is Scriptember?

“a unique, month-long campaign dedicated to celebrating PowerShell and the incredible community that surrounds it. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Sharing knowledge – Having fun.”
  • “Shorten the Code” challenge.
  • Live streams about PowerShell.
  • Conversations with community members.
  • Interview with the inventor of PowerShell, Jeffrey Snover.
  • Winning prices.”

ScriptRunner created the event, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the other sponsors:

Events

Shorten the code

It all started on the first of September with the BEPUG Shorten the Code challenge, and people should be as creative as possible (With some rules regarding not shortening the URL, for example) to get a script as small as possible to win one of these prizes:

  • 2 x 100 Euro/USD Amazon giftcards
  • 2 x Mastering PowerShell Scripting 5. Edition print versions from Packt
  • 2 x Practical Automation with PowerShell eBooks from Manning Publications”

The script was:

And it was shortened by Björn Sundling to this 😀

Tobias and Aleksander’s tips

Dr. Tobias Weltner and Aleksandar Nikolić published multiple PowerShell tips during Scriptember:

Inside IT Automation

There were a lot of interviews and conversations with people from the PowerShell community (Including me) released throughout the month. (You can press the Playlist button at the top right for a list)

It’s always special to see interviews with Jeffrey Snover. We wouldn’t be here without him. 🙂 But I really like the interviews with the people I met at PSConfEU in Antwerp this year. They’re definitely worth watching!

PowerShell cheat sheet for Active Directory

ScriptRunner released a new Cheat Sheet, which you can download here.

PowerShell is Fun Intro Video

This is special to me. Thank you again, Heiko Brenn! He created a theme song for the interviews with me during Scriptember:

Live Streams

There were three live streams during Scriptember with me and Heiko Brenn. Check them out below 🙂

What I enjoyed the most

First of all, having an event like this about a scripting language 🙂 PowerShell has a great community of enthusiasts! Having all these people contribute to tips and tricks, interviews, sessions, and content and being part of that is excellent! Seeing other people approach things differently because of their backgrounds and the many options available taught me a lot. You’re never really done with PowerShell. Keep on learning!

Scriptember 2025?

I hope there will be an event and a different code challenge again, perhaps earlier. Who knows?! 😀

PSSaturday

My next step is the PSSaturday event in Karlsruhe on November 30th. The timeline can be found here, and the page (Free ticket) here. And, very excited, I will do my first talk there:
